Who We Are:

Attune Therapy has been serving families in Hyde Park and across Chicago for more than 23 years. We are a developmental, play-based center focused on enriching a child’s relationships and interactions by uncovering a deeper understanding of their individual and sensory needs.

We specialize in using the developmental, individualized, relationship-based model (also known as the DIR®-Floortime™ approach) with children and their families who are seeking support in the treatment of:

  • Autism
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Sensory Processing Disorder
  • Other Developmental Challenges

at tune verb. to bring into accord, harmony, or sympathetic relationship; to make aware or responsive

Tuning Into the Moment

Attunement involves being present and available in the moment while providing a sense of warmth and calmness to others. When we attune to someone else, we are providing a response from the heart so that a connection can be made, trust and safety can be built, and a relationship can grow.

At Attune Therapy, we have a passion for helping children AND parents. We value a team approach to support a child’s developmental growth and focus on cultivating a deeper understanding of a child and their individual strengths and differences.

  • At the same time, we also seek to better understand where a parent is at in their support needs so that we can teach them attunement tools and help them build a stronger connection with their child.

What Parents Have to Say

"Attune Therapy provided compassionate, strength-based OT and speech services that truly supported my child’s growth in his early years. As a parent, I also gained valuable strategies and a deeper understanding of how sensory processing and regulation play a crucial role in his daily functioning. Their child-first approach made a lasting impact on our family!”

"Angie began working with my daughter slightly after her second birthday. She was a Godsend and both treated my child and taught me how to be the best mother I could be. My daughter is now heading off to a prestigious college and has the type of social life I could only dream of when she was young. Angie made both our dreams come true.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Review common questions we hear from parents.

Visit your pediatrician or primary care provider and voice your concerns. You may need to get a referral for a developmental assessment, which can lead to a proper diagnosis and getting services started.

Fill out the form on our Contact page and schedule a Free screening, consultation with us today.   We can provide support and suggestions for what you can do as you wait for a diagnosis.  You may also want to visit the links listed on our Resources page to learn more.

Infants and toddlers delayed in language often have challenges processing information from their body that can come out in many forms (e.g. behaviors, being able to self soothe, transition easily, lack of exploration).  Their focus is spent towards feeling safe in their body; this can derail expression of speech, communication to develop.

Try to aim for at least 4-5  20 minutes of play with your child every day where you follow their lead and focus on connecting directly with them.

  • The most important thing for a child is their development. To work on that, the child needs to be motivated, interested, and a willing participant. That naturally happens when we take a bottom up approach and join the child’s world (vs. a top down approach and telling them what to do). This way, they’re initiating the activity because it’s something that is important and meaningful to them. We tap into that and make the developmental process fun so that progress can happen.
